A rare 1920's/1930's moulded chocolate novelty, in the form of a 'Kewpie' style doll could leave potential bidders hearts melting when it goes under the gavel in Bamfords 13th December Christmas Toy, Juvenalia, Advertising and Collector's auction.
The chocolate doll was discovered during a valuation appointment with Toy & Juvenalia Specialist and Auctioneer Sean Devitt. Mr Devitt said "This is such a rare and exciting find you can still smell the aroma of the chocolate. It is unusual to find an object that was produced for human consumption to have survived for nearly a century but also the condition is astonishing".
It is reputed that the doll was gifted to the vendor's Mother by a friend who originally acquired it as a gift from her Auntie when she was just a young girl. The vendor's Mother previously cherished the doll which had been wrapped in a cloth in the associated box and was kept on top of the wardrobe which probably explains its remarkable condition.
Auctioneer & Valuer Mr Devitt goes onto explain "I have previously handled small Chocolate and Confectionery novelties but I have never actually seen such a large size doll at nearly 30cm in height It really is unusual. The Vintage and Antique Advertising market is booming right now with a huge network of both Collectors and Dealers both here In the United Kingdom and Internationally happy to invest in such a diverse and eclectic market. We are currently seeing a huge demand for Advertising items such as Enamel Signs, Shop Cabinets and Fittings, Tins and Early Packaging".
